“Decades’ worth of research proves that chemicals used to make bacon do cause cancer. So how did the meat industry convince us it was safe? ”
Above is the first sentence of an article that was sent to me today. It is on the Guardian website.

The article talks about ‘nitrate-free ham‘ and why it is way better for our bodies than non-nitrate-free ham. It’s in an audio podcast format as well as a long text article. You can access the podcast version here. Or you can read the article here.

It’s a long read (or listen) but worth it. Spoiler alert – may make you not want to eat commercial ham/bacon/salami etc again. Fair warning.

If you want to buy (and eat) nitrate-free ham and you live in the Brisbane, Ipswich, Boonah, Toowoomba and Warwick areas (or are in driving distance to them) you are in luck. You can buy nitrate-free ham from our friends at Gleneden Family Farm who grow quality food (including ham) using regenerative and holistic farming practices (which are good for mother nature/ the soil and good for us).

If you don’t live in those areas, but live elsewhere in Queensland (Australia) you could contact RCS Australia and find out who grows and sells nitrate-free ham in your area. OR if you live elsewhere you might have to do some Google research.
