In today’s post, I want to talk about making Char Cloth And Charred Punk Wood!

Why you may ask? Because this stuff could help you start a fire in difficult circumstances. For example, if you’re stuck in the wilderness/ the great outdoors and need to get a fire going, but the timber is wet from recent rain.

It is extremely challenging to start a fire with wet timber and extremely difficult if the tinder you have on hand (or around you) is wet and you don’t have petrol or other flammable fuel (eg. Hexamine fuel tablets or kerosene) to aid you.

It’s even harder to get a fire going if you don’t have a Lighter or Matches and are relying on Flint and Steel & Fire Making Tools. I personally have not yet tried to start a fire with a Bow Drill… but I do know others who have.

Char Cloth And Charred Punk Wood is by far better than the typical tinder that you find when gathering it in nature. Char Cloth And Charred Punk Wood will make starting a fire easier. You make it in advance and you carry it with you in a sealed container so it remains dry.

My understanding is, back in the day it was common to carry it with you when in the wilderness. I have not researched to see how commonly used it was in Australia, but I gather it was common in the US.

With that said, today’s blog post is to simply give you quick access to this video tutorial showing you how to make Char Cloth And Charred Punk Wood!

Side note: I have seen it made but I have not made it myself yet. I plan to do so soon.

Second side note: Did you know you can start a fire using char cloth, a condom and water? You use the condom and water to make a lense. The video tutorial here shows you how. Similarly, you can start a fire with a AA or AAA battery and aluminum foilor chewing gum foil … or a 9 volt battery and steel wool… or a bottle of water or a bag.
